I have to say that the actual working conditions differ noticeably from what was presented during the recruitment process. Several key points we agreed on were not fulfilled - especially the significantly lower salary and unclear contract policies. It also appears to be a common practice in Citi to avoid offering permanent contracts, which I know not only from my own situation but also from colleagues in other departments. This leaves employees in constant uncertainty about their future - which naturally increases stress levels. The benefit package is modest compared to competitors. Beyond Multisport and the health plan, the only additional perk is the cafeteria program. It doesn’t really stand out as anything special - the allowance is low and the options are limited. That said, it is not meant to be a major perk and I don’t expect lavish treatment. At the same time, it’s worth noting that many banks and financial institutions provide more extensive support - generous lunch cards, subsidies for public transportation, regular breakfasts or occasional lunches, and everyday access to drinks and snacks. It’s not about spoiling employees or expecting a full-day catering service when coming to the office - but even having one small addition, like occasional treats, would be a nice gesture and make the workday more pleasant. The everyday work environment could also be improved. It may seem trivial, but a big surprise is the lack of a proper coffee machine. I’ve heard people complain about it, and unfortunately it’s true. If you want a decent-tasting coffee, you have to buy it yourself. Tea is also not regularly stocked. Fruits appear occasionally but disappear quickly, and that’s essentially all that is provided. Regarding hybrid work, I’m not opposed to coming to the office - the issue is that it often lacks purpose. We don’t have regular in-person meetings and most cooperation happens with colleagues abroad, so communication still takes place online. Many employees commute from outside Warsaw and during winter months, the travel time becomes substantial. The argument that “competitors require five office days” is also misleading, as many companies use monthly office-day accounting, require fewer days on site or still offer 70-80% remote work without any negative impact on productivity. Career growth is another concern. From what I’ve seen and heard, promotions are extremely difficult to obtain and annual evaluations often depend more on whether a manager personally likes you than on actual performance. Many managers seem unengaged and unhelpful. It is often unclear what exactly is allowed and what is not - which creates additional insecurity. When it comes to salary, it simply does not support a comfortable lifestyle - it allows a modest existence in a large city. I was also surprised by the complete lack of attention to the holiday season. Even small companies organize basic Christmas dinners or team gatherings - and most provide either a financial holiday bonus or gift packages. Here, there is none of that - which feels unusual for such a large global corporation. The strongest aspect of Citi is undoubtedly the employees themselves. Colleagues are supportive, friendly and genuinely great to work with. This is what makes the day-to-day experience better despite the organizational shortcomings.
