Brown Brothers Harriman vs Polish Labour Law, part One Over two years ago Polish employees of Brown Brothers Harriman, concerned with deteriorating working conditions and increased unresponsiveness of management decided to organize themselves into an officially registered Trade Union. The move sparked a series of events. The most noticeable of them: almost a year long official inspection by the Chief Labour Inspectorate of Poland, evidencing in their report „multiple Labour Law violations” and discovering a significant financial liabilities of Brown Brothers Harriman towards their Polish employees (both current and former) in employment between 2019 and 2021. The Chief Labour Inspectorate also agreed to the Trade Union’s motion and decided that it would be „in the just social interest of the employees” to grant the Union a status of a Party and with it access to full documentation regarding the inspection. This series of posts will provide all of the information regarding the above mentioned inspection and will shed a full light on the behaviour of the Company and its management. The goal of it is to raise awareness about the situation, especially in connection with discovered financial obligations towards the employees (if you are former employee of Brown Brothers Harriman Poland and would like to know more about your situation please contact us), explain the applications of Polish Labour Law and provide clarity to all interested parties. However, most importantly and also characteristically for Trade Unions all around the world - by highlighting evidenced behaviours we would like to encourage a meaningful action on the side of the Employer. Even after two years of trying we are still hopeful that Brown Brothers Harriman will engage in a constructive conversation on the well being of their Polish employees, adherence to the Polish Labour and Trade Union Law and will take a genuine step forward towards becoming a fully respectful, employee friendly company.
