About the project
We are seeking a Data Architect (part-time) for a global e-commerce and marketplace platform operating across North America and multiple international regions. The client supports millions of customers and partners, managing complex financial operations including merchant settlements, payments, promotions, taxation, and revenue reporting.
Due to historical growth, the organization currently operates fragmented regional data platforms with inconsistent models, pipelines, and reporting layers. The objective of the engagement is to design and standardize a unified global data architecture ensuring consistency, auditability, and compliance for critical financial processes such as revenue recognition, VAT/tax reporting, and month-end closing.
Duration: 7–8 months
Commitment: ~80 hours/month (part-time)
Your responsibilities
- Define and enforce Bronze / Silver / Gold data architecture principles across the platform
- Lead global data model harmonization (conformed dimensions, unified fact models, SCD2 implementation)
- Drive migration from Teradata to Google BigQuery, including parallel run strategy and validation approach
- Design and standardize end-to-end data pipelines (ingestion → transformation → consumption) using Apache Airflow
- Establish enterprise data governance framework (lineage, metadata management, RBAC, auditability)
- Implement data quality and observability framework with automated validation and pipeline gating mechanisms
- Define CI/CD standards and support schema evolution processes (Git-based workflows, Flyway)
- Optimize performance and cost efficiency (partitioning, clustering, aggregation strategies in BigQuery)
- Ensure architectural alignment with finance, tax, and regulatory compliance requirements
Our requirements
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or Lead Data Engineer in large-scale data environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery
- Solid background in data warehousing architecture (ideally medallion / layered models)
- Experience in migration projects from legacy DWH solutions (e.g., Teradata) to cloud platforms
- Strong knowledge of Apache Airflow and end-to-end data pipeline design
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data catalog solutions (e.g., OpenMetadata or similar)
- Understanding of CI/CD practices for data engineering (Git, Jenkins, Terraform, Flyway)
- Strong SQL expertise and experience with large-scale data modeling
- Experience in finance, payments, or regulated environments (tax, compliance, auditability) is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a global, cross-functional environment
