Role Purpose:

The Senior DevOps & Automation Engineer is responsible for the implementation and management of the companies Ireland Automation Strategy. 

The Senior DevOps & Automation Engineer will have responsibility for all aspects of automation within company in Ireland, ranging from test automation to DevOps technologies such as Continuous Delivery. 

This role may have responsibility for leading a small automation team across various projects and functional areas to ensure the timely preparation and successful execution of all automated deliverables across several concurrent projects. 

This role will also manage external suppliers

This role will have the responsibility for the maintenance of the Automation framework and will drive best practice and bring thought leadership into the company’s Irish automation team. 

Key accountabilities for this role are:

Responsible for the development and implementation of the overall automation strategy in the company

Scope, design, implement and maintain automation frameworks for all of companies  Irish platforms

Champion our move into DevOps starting with Continuous Delivery

Champion our move from manual testing to automated testing

Day-to-day responsibilities include developing new automated scripts and maintaining existing scripts

Write Automation cases using selected tools to produce reusable functions and drivers that can be used to create automated tests for multiple projects with maximum reuse of automation script code.

Develop and implement automation strategies, test plans, test suites, standards and processes.

Work closely with test teams to triage and address issues.

Participate in project planning sessions with team members to analyse development requirements, provide design options and provide estimates of work.

Data creation activities

Assistance in technical and/or system documentation may be needed to aid support teams.

Provide technical guidance and coaching to more junior team members on automation tools and framework.

Act as a support function within the overall Test Team to ensure that automation is available for individual projects in the required timeframe

Co-ordinate and triage the resolution of all incidents relating to automation in our Test environments

Build a knowledge-base of technical information on our test automation

May be called upon to co-ordinate a small team of automation resources, some of who may be located off-shore

Mentor new team members to up-skill on internal systems, processes and products.

Act as escalation point for the test team on automation issues

Drive Continuous Improvements and best practices within test automation

Identify opportunities for improving overall test automation capabilities

Identify opportunities for cost savings and cost avoidance by the use of test automation

Implementing and evolving appropriate quality measurements and metrics.

Drive introduction of agreed improvement initiatives

No direct financial responsibility

Expected to provide high level cost & time estimates during the Demand Planning phase of projects

Day-to-day co-ordination and leadership of the Test Automation team

Resourcing – reviewing CVs and interviewing potential candidates

Define an Automation Framework for Vodafone Ireland based on appropriate inputs from the Group

DevOps strategy and implementation plan

Test automation strategy & approach per project/release

Develop and implement automation strategies, test plans, test suites, standards and processes

Test automation scripts

Test estimates schedule

CD scripts in Puppet and similar tools

Automation test reporting

Communications material including weekly and adhoc progress reports

The successful person will ideally have some or all of the following Skills & Attributes:

5+ years’ experience in Automation across both DevOps and/or Test is advantageous but the right attitude is most important. Must be very interested in this area and willing to immerse themselves in the technology to become SME level and beyond

Experience in implementing DevOps technologies and processes in an Enterprise environment

Experience of Cloud technologies and the use of cloud to enable DevOps and Test environments

Experience in both Test Automation and DevOps Automation, including Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment.

Experience in tools such as Jenkins, Puppet, Artifactory and other open-source Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment tools would be very advantageous.

Knowledge and experience in the HP automation toolset (QTP, UFT, BPT, etc.) a distinct advantage

Significant experience in leading Automation planning and execution across multiple technologies

Proven skills in test strategy definition, test planning and test data management

Expert knowledge of Automation processes and methodologies

Thorough and practical understanding of testing phases types of testing software development lifecycle

Expert knowledge and experience of Automated Test Tools

Performance & non-functional testing experience

Ability to manage workshops to facilitate development of automation strategy and planning

Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and Visio

Salary:  €70,000 + based on experience

Location: Co. Dublin, Ireland

Interview / start date: Immediately
